SURFACE PATTERN DESIGN
This self-initiated surface pattern design project explores Liberty London's heritage through a collection of contemporary repeat patterns inspired by the brand's archives. Drawing from traditional woodblock printing, Far Eastern influences, and Liberty's iconic floral motifs, the collection reinterprets historical references through my own illustrative style and visual language.

Through archival research and visual storytelling, the project aims to celebrate Liberty's craftsmanship and design legacy while introducing these influences to a contemporary audience. Hand-painted watercolour illustrations were combined with digital pattern-making processes to develop a series of detailed repeat designs. Traditional printmaking methods, including woodblock printing, were explored to investigate the relationship between historical craft techniques and contemporary surface pattern design. The final patterns were designed with applications across textiles, wallpapers, and interior surfaces in mind.
